Both sides have gone head-to-head eight times in the BBL with the Hurricanes leading the scoreline 6-2. In their previous face-off, during the seventh season of the league, the Hurricanes managed to pip the Thunder by nine runs

Batting first, the Hurricanes scored commendable 189/3 thanks to an entertaining knock (97 runs from 63 balls) by D’Arcy Short.

In reply, Thunder started their chase in similar fashion and seemed on drivers seat with Jos Buttler (81 runs from 43 balls) thrashing the the Hurricanes all over the park. But his wicket triggered a sudden collapse and they eventually fell short by just nine runs.

  • Hobart Hurricanes are one of three teams to have won both of their matches so far as they are coming off relatively comfortable victories against Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars so confidence is good as they come up against a fellow side with a 100% win ratio.

  • The batsmen have been on fire with Short, McDermott and Wade all looking to be in fine form so far while Jofra Archer is proving to be key with the ball having taken five wickets in the opening two matches.

  • Head coach Adam Griffith has virtually admitted that he has no intention of changing a winning team so there is every likelihood that we will see the same team that won last time out although they continue to look for a replacement for the injured Tymal Mills.

  • Sydney Thunder have won both of their opening two matches so far including the Sydney derby last time out as they have arguably been the most impressive team in BBL08 to date based on the first two rounds of matches.

  • Thunder have hit two of the four biggest totals so far in the competition which is a testimony to the quality of their batting and the depth of it too as even when the top four have struggled, the middle and lower order have still produced the goods.

  • Jono Cook made his debut last time out and took 1/17 from his four overs and similar to their opponents here, they will surely name an unchanged starting line-up after their performance last time out.
