On 7th September 2025, India and Pakistan are expected to lock horns against each other in the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament is set to begin on the 4th or 5th of September in the United Arab Emirates.
This T20 tournament is going to be the 17th edition of the Asia Cup, which is set to begin with a group stage and super-four round featuring six participating teams such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE.
UAE Hosts due to Political Tensions between India and Pakistan
The political turmoil between the two rival nations, India and Pakistan, is one of the main reasons to make the UAE the frontrunner. Initially, this multi-nation tournament was set to be hosted solely by India. But later, the debate heated up to either assign the complete hosting rights to the United Arab Emirates or follow a hybrid model, where Pakistan could play all its matches at a neutral venue.
The media reports of India have stated that the Asian Cricket Council has finalized a 17-day window. And, during this period, both the nations, India and Pakistan, are set to face off each other starting on 7th September 2025. Following this, the two rivalry nations are likely to play their second match on 14th September, which will solely depend on the team’s progress levels.
However, all the participating teams are looking after the mandatory process of obtaining approvals from their respective governments. In addition, they have been taking part in the promotional activities for the upcoming tournament.
Earlier Speculation of India might pull out of the Asia Cup 2025
Previously, there was a huge speculation that circulated on the internet, which stated that India might pull out of the Asia Cup. This was rumored because of the political tensions between Pakistan and India, which cast a dark cloud over this year’s Asia Cup. However, the PTI (Press Trust of India), the Board of Council for Cricket in India (BCCI) termed the report as “speculative and imaginary”.
Women’s 50-overs World Cup: Pakistan to play in Sri Lanka this year!
According to the official reports, India will be hosting the Women’s 50-over World Cup this year. But Pakistan will not be stepping inside India, so International Cricket Council (ICC) will be scheduling their matches on the grounds of Sri Lanka.
NO Bilateral Cricket between India and Pakistan since 2013
Earlier this year, India did not agree to travel and play on Pakistani soil for the Champions Trophy. Instead, they played all their matches in the grounds of Dubai, UAE, which also included the Final Match on 9th March 2025.
That is because the system of “Bilateral Cricket” between the neighboring countries has been suspended since 2013, as they have been playing against each other only during the multi-team events.
Rival Nations Expected to Clash Thrice!
The tournament of much anticipated Asia Cup 2025 will be following a group-stage and Super Four format. During this system, the six teams participating will split up, with each group having three nations. The excitement adds to when the top two teams from each group will move forward to the Super Four stage. And, then comes the final, where the top two teams from the Super Four will be contested.
According to the format, cricket analyst have been making their calculation that India and Pakistan could probably clash against each other three times, with the following justification:
- First CLASH: The First face-off between India and Pakistan is expected to take place on 7th September 2025 in the Group stage.
- Second CLASH: The second scenario of locking horns between India and Pakistan could probably take place on 14th September 2025 in the Super Four Stage.
- Third CLASH: If both Rivalry nations, India and Pakistan, perform exceptionally well, they are likely to play against each other in the grand finale on 21st September 2025.
