The recently concluded Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction on December 15 (Sunday) in Bengaluru saw the five teams strengthening their squad by filling 19 slots ahead of the third season.

Out of 120 players registered during the mini-auction including 91 Indians and 29 foreigners, just 19 of them went sold during the bidding event (12 Indians and 7 overseas).

Each franchise had a purse of INR 15 crore for the WPL 2025 season to build an 18-member squad, allowing upto six overseas players.

Most of the teams have retained their core players from the previous season’s squad by using their purses wisely as well as releasing a few players to have adequate funds for the auction. After the event, UP Warriorz had the highest remaining purse of INR 3.4 crore having acquired three players for their base price.

Gujarat Giants (GG) acquired Simran Shaikh as the most expensive uncapped Indian player for INR 1.90 crore and West Indies cricketer Deandra Dottin as the costliest overseas cricketer for INR 1.70 crore during the auction.

G. Kamilini became the third most expensive player in the WPL 2025 auction as well as the top buy for the inaugural season’s champions Mumbai Indians (MI) with a price of INR 1.60 crore. Prema Rawat ranks next in the list bagging a lucrative offer of INR 1.2 crore from the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), while N Charani joined the two-time runner-up Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 55 lakh.

Shockingly, several high-profile players such as Sneh Rana, Lauren Bell, Heather Knight, Laura Harris, and Maia Bouchier who were expected to attract big offers went unsold in the auction.
