The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday (January 12) revealed its 15-member squad for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 held in Pakistan and Dubai. Nazmul Hossain Shanto has been appointed as the team’s captain to clinch the maiden championship title in the ninth season.
Earlier, the team under Mashrafe Mortaza qualified for their first semi-final of the tournament in the last season in 2017.
However, veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s absence has made headlines, as he is one of the core players who missed a valuable spot in the lineup.
In addition, Tamim Iqbal is another big name that goes missing in the squad, who recently announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket, being the top-run scorer for Bangladesh in the tournament’s previous edition. He posted on his Facebook that his chapter in his international cricket career was completed as he has been away from the sport for a long time.
Shockingly, Litton Das is another seasoned player excluded from the squad. While experienced players such as the all-rounder Mahmudullah and wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim strengthened their position.
Bangladesh in Group A will commence its campaign against the preceding edition’s runner-up India in Dubai on February 20. Later, the action transitions to Rawalpindi as the Tigers will clash against New Zealand and the hosts Pakistan on February 24 (Monday) and February 27 (Thursday).
Reasons Why Shakib Al Hasan was Not Picked for Champions Trophy 2025
Shakib Al Hasan was suspended from bowling in domestic and international cricket tournaments according to the laws stated by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The decision comes based on the result of the independent assessment conducted at the testing center of Loughborough University, as the former Bangladeshi captain exceeded bowling above the maximum permitted elbow extension limit of 15 degrees.
Even though he could have been eligible to perform as a batter, the BCB has sidelined him from the squad. He made his last international appearance in the 2-match test series played in India in October 2024.
Litton Das Reveals Why He wasn’t Selected for Champions Trophy 2025
Bangladeshi wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das admitted that his lack of form forced the selectors to drop him out of the 50-over format squad for the CT 2025:
As BCB announced their squad on Sunday morning, Das on the same day roared back with his unbeaten knock of 55-ball-125 runs (including 10 fours and 9 sixes) for Dhaka Capitals against Durbar Rajshahi in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25. Here’s what the experienced right-handed batter said after his exceptional century:
“Yeah! The selection for the Champions Trophy was completely out of my control. It was the selector’s decision. They decide who should play for the team. My role is to perform well which I haven’t been able to do in recent times. I feel a bit disappointed and I have a similar mindset before and after this game. However, the day has been gone. Although I delivered a good performance, all this happened in the past. All I need to do is start from scratch again and work hard. Let’s hope for the best results and wait for what comes next.
Also, I received a clear indication, perhaps, not from the selectors, which helped me predict the reason for not selecting in the squad. I need to accept that I wasn’t performing well and there isn’t anything to hide about,” Das said.
The 30-year-old started the tournament’s 11th season with poor scores and managed to score 50-plus scores in two consecutive innings. These are Litton’s scores against these opponents updated till the recently concluded 18th match of the tournament:
| Opponent Team | Runs | Balls | 4s and 6s | Strike Rate |
| Rangpur Riders | 31 | 27 | 3 Fours and 1 Six | 114.81 |

| Rangpur Riders | 9 | 13 | 1 Four | 69.23 |
